When my husband and I moved to McKinney in 2008, we had a lot on our minds. What paint colors did we want? Should we upgrade the kitchen or the master bathroom first? Who was going to claim the extra closet space (*raises hand*)?
Moving is a ton of work, especially when compromise is involved.
But these days, the only thing my husband and I playfully argue about is which McKinney restaurants are the best.
Steve and I each have three favorite food spots, and there’s no overlap whatsoever. If you’ve lived here for a while, you probably have strong opinions about this, too, but if you’re new, any of the six is worth trying.
For starters, my favorite local restaurants are:
1. Mesas Mexican Grill – They have fantastic specialty cocktails, tacos, enchiladas, and an entire brunch menu that includes one of my all-time Tex-Mex favorites, chilaquiles. I will eat here any time, for any reason, no questions asked.
2. Local Yocal BBQ & Grill – You have not had BBQ until you’ve had Local Yocal’s. They make some of the best brisket, ribs, turkey, and sausage around. Or, if you prefer, try their sandwiches, steaks, or seafood. Everything on the menu is 10/10, would-eat-again good.
3. Cavalli Pizza – If you’re looking for authentic Italian pizza, look no further. Cavalli’s sauce is the stuff of dreams. They also make incredible pasta, bread, and paninis.
Now, flying in the face of my picks, Steve’s favorite local restaurants are:
1. Anamia’s Tex-Mex – I will admit, they make some excellent quesadillas and fish tacos. If you like a menu with tons of options, you can’t go wrong at Anamia’s.
2. Hutchins BBQ – Okay, it’s hard not to love Texas BBQ, but this is definitely one of our better spots. I really enjoy their Texas Twinkies—large jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. I mean… come on.
3. Hideaway Pizza – They make killer dough, not to mention their baked pasta. I’d be lying if I said I don’t crave their lasagna from time to time.
Of course, as a local realtor, I love supporting our small businesses… but my three favorite restaurants are the molehills I will die on. Just ask Steve. He’s picked up Cavalli’s pizza so many times that the employees know him by name.
Honestly, there are just so many good food spots here that it’s hard to list only a few. If you have a tried-and-true favorite, reach out. I’m always looking for new places to recommend to my clients!
